Why Electrify with Dana
Transforming the Future of Mobility
When looking at our position in the e-Mobility space, Dana’s difference lies in the whole story — the combination of our past successes, present capabilities and application knowhow, and clearly-defined strategy for the future. It’s these elements, together, that position us as a global leader in vehicle electrification and hybridization, able to partner with and support OEMs at any stage in their electrification progression, with individual modules or complete, fully integrated systems.
Serving Electrification Needs Now
Strategic acquisitions and partnerships have augmented our existing drivetrain competence with deep expertise in electric propulsion. We can support our customers with any electrification need, anywhere in the world—we know because we’re already doing it.
Products Developed to Date
We already have multiple electrified products developed, validated, and available today. At the highest level, they include:
e-Propulsion Systems (e-Axles, e-Drive Units, e-Hub Drives, e-Gearboxes)
e-Motion Systems
Complete Fully Integrated e-Powertrain
Products in Production
Despite the fact that many customer names must remain confidential at this early stage of vehicle electrification, we are actively providing solutions for a number of innovative programs. Every Chevrolet Volt that rolled off the line featured our battery cooling technology and today, we supply our disconnecting front e-axle for Ferrari’s most powerful car ever, the hybrid SF90 Stradale hypercar.
Proof of Concepts
We have working proof of our electrified concepts across all markets. Not only do our eight demonstrator vehicles bring our designs to life, they also highlight our deep controls and integration expertise.
Research and Development
Engineers across our 26 technology centers globally are working to develop technologies that until today, did not exist. This commitment to innovation has allowed us to secure hundreds of development agreements with potential electrification customers across the globe.
Collaboration
Other top Tier I suppliers are turning to Dana for our electro-mechanical expertise and capacity to develop complete, integrated systems. Working in partnership with these companies, Dana is helping OEMs launch their most innovative electrified programs yet.
30+ Years of Electrification Experience
We’ve been building critical electrification expertise, resources, and technologies for more than 30 years. This past experience gives us the know-how necessary to address our customers’ electrification needs both today and in the future.
Mechatronics
We have a group of highly-focused engineers dedicated to the integration of mechanical and electrical components for electrified applications. This team, housed across eleven of our technology centers globally, collaborates with top academic engineering institutions and invests in the best and the brightest talent to ensure a constant flow of inventive ideas. Due to the tight-knit nature of the group, we are more agile and efficient, and ultimately faster to technological advancements.
System Integration
With all the core elements of a complete, fully integrated electrified system under one roof, we have a unique understanding of how each component interacts with one another. We understand that different applications have vastly different motor requirements and we know how integral thermal management is to inverter performance. Even if a customer isn’t looking for us to provide a complete system, our ability to do so allows us to efficiently develop components and modules that are optimized for seamless integration.
Motor, Inverter, and Controls
We have a complete spectrum of motor, inverter, and controls solutions available — and have been building this specialized expertise for several decades. With such a broad range of in-house capabilities, we’re able to serve our customers’ precise needs without bias towards a particular solution and more efficiently embed electric propulsion into all of our electrified offerings.
Battery Management Solutions
Dana has the in-house capabilities to build batteries one cell at a time and program them to determine energy capture and distribution according to the road ahead. Any adjustments needed can be made on the spot without involving outside vendors.
Thermal Management
For more than 20 years, our Power Technologies group has worked to build a broad portfolio of award-winning battery, power electronics, and motor cooling technologies.
Multi-Market Advantage
Because we serve all mobility markets, we're able to leverage electrification knowledge gained in one market across all others. For example, we’re leveraging the NVH competence we’ve perfected in our light vehicle business unit to optimize the gearing in today’s quieter electrified off-highway applications.
Fuel Cells
With more than 15 years of fuel cell expertise and fuel cell plates already in mass production, we have a significant advantage over the competition. As a partner within a European fuel cell consortium, we’re among the leaders in the advancement of this innovative technology.
